Set Your own Shortcuts

Go Into Setting - Applications - Quick Launch

Set MP3 As Ringtone

When the song is playing, select Menu -> Set As Ringtone. you can do this for multiple songs, then set different ringtones for each contact in your contacts

Simply type an email address into the to field instead of a phone number

Spacebar - page down

Use the Volme buttons to move up or down a page

Save Word to dictionary

Save some home screen space

You can remove the google search widget and the magnifying glass in the bottom right area instead.
Short press the magnifying glass for google search
Long press the magnifying glass for voice search

Save image when browsing

if you want to save a picture on a website you are browsing. press and hold the picture. then select 'save'

Save a picture from MMS

Instead of trying to save the image on the screen, go back to the message thread. press and hold on the message that has the picture attached. then selected 'Copy attachment to SD card'

Remove onscreen keyboard

Hold and swipe downloads to make it disappear



Quickly insert a period / full stop


Instead of typing the . (full stop / period) symbol, simply press Space twice

Power control widget


Press and hold a blank area of the home screen. Select Widgets -> Power Control. This will let you quickly change features like Bluetooth and WiFi

One-touch contact dialing


Long press on an empty part of the home screen. Select Shortcut -> Direct Dial. Then select the contact you want. You can now just press the shortcut on the home screen and the contact will be dialed

Make phone run faster


By turning off the animations, your phone will run faster and smoother. Press Menu -> Settings -> Sounds & Display -> Animation. Turn this to Off. The Off option works best for quickest performance

Keep ring tones from showing up in your music list


Add the ringtone to the "/sdcard/media/ringtones" folder. Your music player won't index music files in this folder

Keep album art from showing up in your gallery


Save the album art file as "folder.jpg"

Frequenty used contacts on shortcut menu

If you have a lot of contacts, but use a few regularly, then you can store these on the Shortcut Menu. Open the Contact screen and press the Gray Star in the top right corner. It should turn yellow. Then you can go to the Homescreen, long press on a blank area and choose Folder -> Starred Contacts. Your regularly used contacts will appear in this folder

Enable USB Storage


Plug the USB cable into the phone. Then press and drag down the Notifications Bar from the top of the screen. Press where it says USB Connected, then select Mount. Your computer will then show that a new drive is connected

Drag notifications bar down


You can drag the notifications bar down to show more information about each item. You can then drag it back up again when done

Divert certain contacts to voicemail


Go to Contacts. Press the contact you want to divert. Press Menu -> Options and tick 'Send Calls Directly to Voicemail'


Change the unlock pattern


Go into Settings - Locations & Security - Set Unlock Pattern. You can then draw a pattern to change the unlock key

Change sound for email messages


Go into Google Email and select Settings. Then go down and select a ringtone. You can also set the ringtone to Silent if you prefer

Change length of time emails stay on your phone


Go to your Inbox. Press Menu - Account Settings - Amount to Synchronise. You can chose between 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks or 1 month

Change contact descriptions


When you enter a contact a list of phone number types will be displayed (eg Home, Work etc). Scroll to the bottom and select Custom. This is useful for someone that has multiple numbers of the same type

Bring up the Applications Menu


Press and hold the Home key

Be careful of magnets


Be careful not to put the Droid near a magnet. This can activate the Car Mode which will use up your battery

Automatically enter Voicemail password


Go to Home - Settings - Call Settings - Voicemail Settings. Then open the voicemail number screen. After the voicemail number add three commas with your keyboard, then your Voicemail password. This will insert a pause and type your password for you

Automatically adjust screen depending on brightness


Go to Settings - Sounds and Display Settings - Brightness. Tick the box to automatically adjust screen brightness

Adding pauses when dialing


When dialing a number, or storing a number in your contacts, inserting a comma ( , ) will pause the dialing for about 2 seconds

Add a contact to speed dial list


Go to Contacts and press the Star in the top right hand corner. When the Star is illuminated the contact is added to your favourites list

Access the programming menu


When in the Call screen, type in ##PROGRAM and press Send

Access phone information


Use at your own risk:
When in the Call screen, type in *#*#4636#*#* and press Send

Access Battery Information


Go to the Voice Dial application and speak the words "Open Battery Info". A screen will display information about the battery

Watch Youtube videos in High Quality


Chose the video you want to watch. When it starts playing, press Settings and then select 'watch in high quality'

Turn sound off from the unlock screen


In a similar way to unlocking the screen (sliding the unlock icon clockwise to the right) you can slid the Speaker icon anti-clockwise to the left to turn the sound off

Start in Safe Mode


Turn the phone off. Then turn it on again. While it is loading, hold down the Menu key. Keep holding it until the phone is fully booted

Press Shift twice (press Shift again to stop) - Caps Lock
Alt + Trackball left - Move cursor to beginning of line
Alt + Trackball Right - Move cursor to end of line
Alt + Q - Tab character
